I've come across a few posts this week on Facebook discussing pricing of handmade goods - low prices vs. high prices. Some shops sell some items really low, while some price double to others. When you buy handmade, what are you looking for?
Here are a few of the things that Handmade items support:
Supports small communities and individuals
The items are not mass-produced
Quality
Unique product
Appreciation for and desire to support the creator and their trade
Some price their items low for several reasons - it may just be a hobby; they have suppliers that are really low in cost; or simply because they are starting up. Others price their items higher because of the time they put into making the item, it may be their sole income, or they just don't have suppliers that are low.
Whatever the case may be, buying handmade is a one of a kind experience. Each handmade item has a story, an inspiration, a connection to something. Handmade items also take a lot time.
What is most important is knowing that you will be supporting an individual's creative endeavor, an artist - that in itself is priceless.
I came across this blog post and I love all the reasons artists, customers and designers shared:

Thank you for supporting HANDMADE! :-)
